24 year old Scottish producer KC Lights has stunned the underground house scene with an amazing release on Hervè’s label “Cheap Thrills”. The track itself “No No No (KC Lights Dark Mix)” has gained some serious recognition already, having been premiered on Annie Mac’s Friday night Radio 1 show.
KC Lights – No No No (KC Lights Dark Mix)
We caught up with KC Lights to hear a bit about him and his journey so far.
Tell us a bit about yourself, and how you came about getting a release on Cheap Thrills?
I’m 24, currently living in Glasgow. I studied music at Aberdeen University and play Saxophone among some other instruments. I’ve been working with Cheap Thrills for a good few years now, developing my own sound and myself as an artist. They’ve been great to work with and I’m looking forward to working with them more!
Has the upcoming release given you any surprises from the support you’ve received?
Yes! Massively surprised with the amount of support on this one. I was ecstatic to hear Annie Mac was premiering it, never mind her continuing to play it out for 7 weeks! Pete Tong and Danny Howard also among the Radio 1 support, still can’t believe it.
What genre would you say best suited you?
I predominantly write House music as KC Lights although I’ve been a musician for as long as I could walk pretty much and been involved in just about every genre you can imagine so can’t give you a straight answer for this one.
As 2015 has already been quite a successful year for you, what are your plans for later on in the year?
The next release, called “Down”, that I wrote with Herve as ‘The Count’ and features a great vocalist Pepper Rose is already being promo’d just now and picked up a Pete Tong play so excited to see that one build a bit. Got loads more releases and some remixes lined up for the coming months as well!
Finally, what are your top 5 most influential tracks of all time?
Tough one, off the top of my head and in no particular order I’ll go with;
Justice – Genesis
Fatima Yamaha – What’s A Girl To Do
Deadmau5 – Brazil
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under The Bridge (Live at Slane Castle)
Chvrches – The Mother We Share
